Copse & Thicket
This House presents a group exhibition exploring the quiet companionship of trees that grow together in a copse or thicket. Standing apart from the untamed woodland, these small gatherings offer a compelling visual metaphor for community.

About the artists…
This selection of artists grew from a growing resurgence we have witnessed over the last few years in painting ‘en plein air’ or in situ. Through years of walking the hills and woodlands with sketchbooks, easels and paint tins these artists all have a profound dedication to observational work, incorporating a deep connection with the landscape into their practice.
The idea of ‘Copse & Thicket’ was born in the Spring when the trees came to life. We had been looking for a theme that would tie a group of artists working outdoors together and the idea of trees standing tall, rooted in the landscape to observe the ever changing weather, light patterns and seasons felt like a suitable simile to the artist who stands still and really looks.
The collection will be on show at This House Gallery from 24th August until 17th October and available exclusively with This House.
