This House is proud to present a talk by ‘Man in the Woods’ to celebrate the coming of Samhain.
An enigma and rural flaneur, Man in the Woods became renowned for his ‘Friday Walks’ in which he traverses the English countryside each week in the search for nothing in particular but seemingly finding everything worth noticing. Each walk beginning where the last left off; these ambling journeys have unearthed curious traditions, patterns and oddities. His resulting collection of handmade artefacts is an ode to the magical charms of the English landscape and its inhabitants.
When we asked what he might include in this very seasonal talk he told us that he ‘enjoys carving a turnip at this time of year and that incidentally the national anthem of Wiltshire is about turnips and it’s one of his favourite weird folk songs’.
After the talk there will be some music and a very exciting ‘Autumn Vegetable Competition’ - special guest judge to be announced soon. You can submit your vegetables for consideration during the week before where they will be displayed in the Gallery. Please note: we are looking for spectacular wonky vegetables - and they don't need to be carved.
Tickets are £25, including a drink and a seasonal gift. Seven Bakery (opposite the gallery) will be open late serving hot soup and their famously delicious bread.
