Chrysalis: A solo show by Rebecca Sammon

Chrysalis is a new collection of drawings and paintings by Rebecca Sammon. It describes a suspended state of becoming, where the human figure and landscape remain entangled in continuous transformation.

Working across painting and drawing, Sammon builds layered surfaces in which fragile works on paper are obscured beneath oil pastel. Images surface gradually through layered starting points becoming erased and reworked, drawn out from something buried, shaped by memory and imagined scenes. Within these shifting terrains, figures and forms are entangled with organic matter: roots that reach and bind, weeds that scatter and spread, flowering structures that span figures and surface, and winged creatures caught mid-transition. The chrysalis lingers as a quiet framework - a site of enclosure, transition and unseen change. Here, transformation is an ongoing condition unfolding: slow, uncertain and without resolution. Historical fragments, held within memory, surface within the work and reappear through found frames, extending a thread of personal history.

Across the work, boundaries slip between body and landscape, surface and depth. Chrysalis invites the viewer into this threshold to a space of suspension, to witness the process of transformation and  becoming.
