For David Phillips visiting other places is an important catalyst for the propagation of new work. What will happen is always unknown and often surprising. From depictions of a small town in Michigan to recollections of our own Stroud hills, this exhibition offers a glimpse into the singular visions of a fascinating artist.
These paintings each offer a view into a world rooted in the curious observations David makes on site. They are imbued with a characteristic sense of myth; characters, buildings and hills move as translucent phantoms across landscapes which are simultaneously bucolic and ancient but somehow also feel like visions from a future we might live in years to come.
